Atypical pneumonia usually caused by mycoplasma and chlamydophila bacteria is a milder form of pneumonia. Legionella bacteria can cause a severe case of atypical pneumonia. The atypical pneumonia symptoms are as follows:
- diarrhea (especially with legionella)
- confusion (especially with legionella)
- chills
- cough -- may be dry or productive of phlegm
- fevers
- headache
- breathing, rapid may be present
- muscular stiffness and aching
- loss of appetite (anorexia)
- shortness of breath may be present
- malaise
- rash (especially with mycoplasma)
